A Magical Bed and Breakfast
A magical bed and breakfast for everyone!

Bed and breakfasts in Merida are becoming more and more popular as this vibrant city becomes more recognized by the rest of the world. Mexico is already aware of how fabulous this city is, it’s time the rest of the world knows it too. For those who come to visit, staying in a bed and breakfast is a great way to vacation because it gives you the chance to view this beautiful city in a way that only locals know.
Merida has a rich Mayan civilization history that predates the arrival of the Spanish by centuries. The city was built on the site of the ancient Maya city of T’ho, one of the oldest Mayan occupied cities in the Americas. When Spanish conquerors founded the city in 1542 they named it Merida after a Spanish city. The Spanish established convents around the city to replace the indigenous culture with Christianity. By the end of the 16th century, much of the Mayan culture and its people were destroyed.
To build their city, the Spanish used many of the carved Mayan stones to construct their buildings, which includes many buildings still found today in the historic center of the city, including the main cathedral. Limestone is mostly white which gives Merida its nickname of the “White City.” It was certainly built with longevity in mind and that is exactly what happened in Merida.
In the downtown area of Merida, a historical building still stands but it has been hollowed out to allow for the construction of homes. One of these beautiful homes is Vida Magica. The first two sections of this grand house are restored from the 1800s and everything beyond that point is brand new construction. The house sits on three lots and is like a fortress with ultimate privacy. It was built by Ian Arthur Smith. Originally from Europe, Arthur lived in Los Angeles for a bit before moving to Merida. His homes are very well known and so is his reputation for being an extraordinary builder.
The best part about the house is that it is a bed and breakfast and available to all who seek it! There are no words to describe this house; it simply must be viewed to believe. It has been remodeled in a way that allows for all the modern amenities you would expect while still holding on to the old world charm that is Merida. It is a truly radiant home that you could be lucky enough to stay in!
This bed and breakfast has 3 bedrooms each with their private bath. You won’t be sharing toilets in this house! There is ample space for you to enjoy as well such as the beautiful pool and garden area. The owners live on the property so meal arrangements can be made as well.
