Merida is a wonderful Mexican city that has so much to offer anyone who visits. If you are anything like me, you fell in love the second you stepped onto Mexican soil. Merida is an easily accessible city in a fabulous part of the country so it’s no wonder expats like myself visited and never left. My house is named La Vida Magica and it is one of the best house rentals in Merida when I’m not living in it of course! Come see why I’m not the only foreigner who feels this way.
Living in the United States is a great place to be, don’t get me wrong. We are a free nation and we are allowed to do just about anything we please, as long as it is legal. But, living in a place that experiences all four seasons can sometimes get downright depressing. The spring and summer months are wonderful, the fall and winter not so much. We all need a place to retreat to and for me that place is Merida.
Merida is the capital of the Yucatan and this city is rich in culture and history of the Mayan people. You can visit nearby beaches and study the ruins or visit museums to learn more. There is ample shopping and great food. You will never run out of things to do. When I decided to buy a second home here, I wanted an oasis of sorts. Something that made me yearn to come back time and time again. Merida itself is enough to make me want to stay and not go back, but renting every time I come here just wasn’t an option. I wanted a place to call my own. And that is exactly what I did.
My Oasis is set in a historical building close to downtown. I am within walking distance to stores and restaurants that I don’t need a car. I can Uber or taxi to get to locations a little further away. Most of the time I don’t even want to leave my house because it is just that cool and there is so much right here for me to do. I have a beautiful pool, an entertainment system and gourmet kitchen that the only time I need to leave is for supplies!
If you are a foreigner like me, looking to own a little slice of paradise, I am here to tell you that it isn’t out of your reach. Mexico, in general, is a very affordable country and finding property to own is abundant. If you are thinking about visiting, make the Yucatan your first priority. Make Merida the place where you rest your head. When you visit, come to the best house rental in Merida (when I’m not here) and experience for yourself what it is like to live like a local, even if it is just for a night or two. I am confident you will be back for more!
