Forget the Resort in Merida with Home Rental
Step beyond the resort experience and look into a whole new Mexican world
In Mexico, there are many places to visit. There are many destinations, many resorts, and many activities to explore here. One new take on the Mexican world as of late has been house rentals. Besides the savings, renting a house offers personal connections that are all but impossible to find within the boundaries of a hotel. One amazing location to visit in Mexico is the region of the Yucatan and its capital city of Merida.
As a traveler of the world, I have been to many locations, stayed at many resorts and have had fabulous adventures. But things are different when you decide to rent a home away from home. During my visit to Merida, I decided staying in a house versus a hotel would be a better way for my family and me to thoroughly enjoy our time in Mexico.
Behind a pair of heavy, metal doors, hides a pristine home awaiting our arrival. This home is La Vida Magica and it was as truly magical as its name proposed it would be. It is situated inside of a historical building, probably commercial at some point but since turned into a hacienda. As my family and I lugged our bags inside, we felt as if we had entered the pages of “The Secret Garden” full of wonder and surprise. Around a rectangular pool, lush tropical plants and flowers welcomed us with grandeur and surprise. A flowing fountain greeted us and water trickled down with laughter and happiness.
More surprises revealed themselves to us as our exploration continued. Tile in the foyer seemed to have been stopped in time for these were not tile work that was done in recent years. The kitchen, living area, and dining room were all connected and the patio and garden were visible through the wall-to-wall doors.
Each of the three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms contained personal touches that were clearly thought out and well presented. This section of the house is my favorite. There is something about the indoor/outdoor conceptual view of the long corridor that never seems to grow old for me.
Clearly, this home has architectural appeal but we also picked this home for its location. Situated in a residential part of downtown Merida, you can walk to restaurants and shopping and enjoy the vibrant nightlife and lazy days that Merida has to offer. There is much to do in this wonderful city. Museums to visit, theaters and shopping. You can venture further into the Yucatan and enjoy the beaches along the Gulf Coast or take a hike into the tropical forests and see the Mayan ruins.
This city’s beating heart is evident in everything it hosts including its people. The culture here is warm and friendly. The Mayan people love to host guests and they are happiest when they get to talk about their beautiful city.
