Things to Do in Merida

There are endless lists of things to do in Merida as it’s a very active city with events happening all the time. Here are a few simple things to do on a first visit.
Walking Tour of the City
Plaza de la Independencia also known as Plaza Grande is a beautiful park in the center of town. Every morning you can take a walking tour of the city. The tour is free, just make sure you tip your guide!

Gran Museo del Mundo Maya
We learned quite a bit about Mayan history just from this tour. There’s a very small fee to get into the museum, but I promise you can afford it!
Address: Calle 60 299-E, Revolucion, 97180 Mérida, YUC
Mérida Cathedral
Absolutely beautiful! I can never tire of looking at the extraordinary architecture. It is a site to behold.
Address: Calle de la Revolución No. 62, Centro, 97000 Mérida, YUC
Paseo de Montejo
One of our favorite areas for shopping and dining and drinking! Nice restaurants, a great ice cream place, and an Irish pub, not to mention the most indescribable store that is filled with décor that your mind could not even imagine!
Santa Lucia
Another favorite of ours! Similar to Paseo de Montejo with a little more going on. A newer concept here boasts an array of incredible restaurants in one central open area. Every one of these food establishments is great. There’s a plethora of tiendas or shops for décor and souvenirs.
Triunfo
The only words to describe this 3-level store are, “Everything you can and cannot imagine for décor and more!” It is worth the time!
